Dr. Mana Bajra - Ayurveda and Ayurvedic Medicine

Vaidya (meaning Ayurvedic physician) Mana Bajra Bajracharya, or Dr. Mana as he is more affectionately called by the great numbers of western patients he has cured, studied Ayurveda from his father Durga Bajra, mother Tirtha Kumari and grandfather Nila Bajra. They were well known Ayurvedic physicians of Nepal who, in their turn, studied Ayurveda under their own parents and grandparents, and so on back through the generations over seven hundred years of history. Their medical knowledge has always been based on the traditional system of one teacher education using the traditional Ayurvedic texts in their original Sanskrit version supplemented by the wealth of knowledge and experience accumulated by the family over these last seven centuries.

Dr. Mana's stature and reputation as an Ayurvedic healer are quite renowned with his impressive ability to cure illnesses when all other treatments have failed, which is extremely difficult to explain since his approach cannot be classed within the paradigms of medical science.

He had a profound understanding of human nature, and thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, Buddhist philosophy and Ayurvedic medicine.

Not only was he an Ayurvedic physician, he was also a Buddhist priest who, through his profession, implemented the Buddhist ideals of compassion, loving kindness and relieved human suffering wherever possible.

In his holistic approach to healing Dr Mana made great use of the wide variety of plants available in Nepal:

Dr. Mana Bajra - Ayurveda and Ayurvedic Medicine  Nearly five hundred kinds of medicinal plants including nutritional fruits and vegetables have been used in Ayurvedic texts and Dr. Mana had expert knowledge of them all. These plants grow in different climates (alpine, sub-alpine, temperate, tropical and sub-tropical) of Nepal, India, and other countries. Different parts of different plants are of medicinal value in Ayurveda.

Dr. Mana Bajra - Collecting herbs  The process of collecting plants and minerals for use in Ayurveda and drying and storing them is extremely complex if their active principles are to be kept at peak efficacy. Likewise the process of preparing the Ayurvedic medicines.

Dr Mana specialized in treating cancer and edited 'The Ayurvedic Records of Cancer Treatment' published by Piyushavarsi Ausadhalaya in Kathmandu, Nepal.
